Why your screenshots never get used
A screenshot is just an image: your phone doesn't know it contains place names. It won't show up on a map, it won't sort by country, and you won't find it when you're actually there, two streets away from the address.
The usual fix — typing each name into Google Maps and saving them one by one — takes ten minutes per screenshot. That's exactly why nobody does it, and why camera rolls fill up with lists that never get used.
The 3-step method
- 1Take the screenshotOn Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest or a blog: what matters is that the place names are readable on screen.
- 2Import it into MyFavsMapImport tab → “📸 From a screenshot” → pick the image. The places are spotted in a few seconds.
- 3Check and saveEach place found is pinned on the map, with its city and a category. Untick the ones you don't want, then save: they're sorted by country.
Open the Import tab, choose “From a screenshot” and watch your places land on your map.
Open MyFavsMap →The screenshots that work best
- “X places to…” infographics and carousels: the ideal case, every name is written large.
- Post and video captions: on TikTok or a reel, pause the video on the frame where the names appear, or screenshot the caption.
- A blog or guide page: capture the part where the addresses are listed.
- A list a friend sent you: a screenshot of the message is enough, cropped to keep only the places.
What doesn't work: a plain landscape photo with no text. The reading relies on the names written in the image, not on recognizing a monument in a photo.
Four tips for a clean result
One screenshot per carousel slide. If a post has ten images, capture the ones that carry names: each screenshot adds its places to the list.
Zoom in if the text is small. A blurry or cut-off name is less likely to be recognized.
Crop. Remove notifications, messages and anything that isn't the list: the reading is more reliable, and your information stays with you.
Check before saving. Namesakes exist (there's a “Café de Paris” everywhere). The city shown under each place lets you check at a glance.
What happens to your screenshot?
To spot the places, the screenshot is sent to Claude, the AI from Anthropic, which reads it and returns the list of names. MyFavsMap doesn't keep the image. Anthropic doesn't use it to train its models and deletes it within 30 days.
Before the first upload, the app explains this and asks for your consent. Just avoid screenshots that show personal information (private messages, phone numbers, friends' addresses).
No screenshot? Paste the list
If you have the text — a copied caption, a list in your notes, names someone texted you — paste it directly: Import tab → “📝 Paste a place or a list of places”. One name per line, or separated by commas. It's unlimited and doesn't go through any AI.
Free or paid?
You need an account, which is free. A free account lets you import 3 screenshots a month; a screenshot where no place is found doesn't count. The Explorer plan raises this to 40 screenshots a day and removes the limit on the number of places.
Screenshot import works on myfavsmap.com, from a computer, as well as in the iPhone and Android apps.
Next: from screenshot to trip
Once on your map, these places behave like all the others: category filters, a map you can open offline, a day-by-day itinerary with optimized order and travel times, a list you can share with friends. Monday's screenshot becomes Saturday's day out.
What else is new
- Paste a list, first. When you open the app, the first choice is now “Paste a place or a list”: the fastest way to get started.
- Like notifications. Publish a list in the Community and get a phone notification when someone likes it. It's optional, and you can turn it off at any time.
- Trips with friends. A shared map where everyone adds their places live (read the guide).
- Everything in 5 languages. The app and its welcome screens are in English, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.
